Murder of Jagendra Singh refers to the killing of a journalist in India by setting him on fire on 1 June. Jagendra Singh was an Indian journalist from Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He died on 8 June 2015 from burn injuries. He had allegedly been set on fire on 1 June 2015 by some local policemen and goons allegedly under the directions of Uttar Pradesh Minister of Dairy Development, Ram Murti Verma. Singh had worked for Hindi language media for 15 years.〔 ==Background== Singh used to run a Facebook page called ''Shahjahanpur Samachar''. It had a number of followers and Singh had written posts about Verma's alleged links to corruption and illegal mining.〔 But, he had not backed the claims by posting evidence.〔 On 4 May 2015, Ram Murti Verma and some of his henchmen allegedly had raped a female Anganwadi worker. She later told a local court that a First Information Report (FIR) was being refused to be filed against Ram Murti Verma. Jagendra Singh had taken up the news. Verma had claimed that it was a political ploy by his rivals and Singh to plant the fake case against him.〔 On 22 May 2015, Singh wrote a post saying that he was being harassed by policemen, goons and politicians, and that he feared that he might be killed by Verma.〔
